Combat Zone

There are a number of particular colloquial connotations for "combat zone." Traditionally, though, the phrase refers to a particular part of the world where the military is directly engaged with enemy forces.

In financial terms, having something officially designated a combat zone leads to some tax ramifications. Military personnel serving in combat zones receive certain tax benefits. For instance, any combat pay received is exempt from federal income tax.
