Academically speaking, and in a vacuum tube library, there are two primary types of diversity:
Surface-Level Diversity: Surface-level diversity is often what pundits talk about when they pretend that they’re diversity experts. It’s what we’re able to see on the outside. Skin color, gender, race, ethnicity, ability, etc. Sometimes, it’s not even that obvious.
Deep-Level Diversity: It’s what’s on the inside that counts. Well…maybe. It involves the differences in the inner workings of people.
Two individuals can be very different in surface-level diversity, but similar in deep-level diversity. What’s on the outside doesn’t determine what’s on the inside.
