Edge Act Corporation
Living on the edge...of international borders...is what Edge Act Corporations do best.
Edge Act corporations are subsidiaries (baby companies to larger parent companies) of US or foreign banks. This kind of thing wasn't allowed until Senator Walter Evans Edge came along and made it a thing in 1919 with the Edge Act.
Edge Act corporations can do banking activities like any ol' bank (making loans, safeguarding deposits, the usual...except abroad), and also like the big-boy banks (investing abroad).
The Edge Act made it easier for foreign banks to do banking business in the US and for businesses in the US to own foreign banks. While it might sound confusing, it actually makes things easier and less confusing for these business, since it draws a line between domestic and foreign business risk.
Risky business? Not anymore, Tom.
