Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF)

Categories: International, Econ

Oil has OPEC. Natural gas has GECF.

The Gas Exporting Countries Forum is an organization of gas-producing nations (no, not the countries with the highest rate of digestive problems...we mean the natural gas that comes out of the ground and fuels your furnace).

The organization is meant to promote mutual interests of its members and maintain a stable gas market. The GECF consists of 11 countries: Iran, Algeria, Russia, Bolivia, Venezuela, Equatorial Guinea, Egypt, Libya, Qatar, Nigeria, and Trinidad and Tobago.

As to that other hypothetical organization of gas producers, the one based on digestive issues, we’re thinking the U.S., Mexico, and Scotland would be charter members.
