Ancient printing technology. Okidata was the big pioneer when home computing was like a new thing. Ink sprayed out of little tiny "jets" and made a distinctive noise as it painted paper.

"Everyone" had one of these things, until laser printers replaced virtually all of them in a 5-year span. Today, you find them in museums, along with pens.
