Vacancies

Categories: Metrics, Real Estate

In general, a “vacancy” implies that there’s room for someone to join something. Vacancies in apartment buildings means there are empty rooms, waiting for people to fill them.

In macroeconomics, vacancies may refer to job vacancies, meaning there’s a higher supply of jobs than there is demand for them (on a large scale, anyway; on a smaller scale, there are always people changing jobs, quitting jobs, and starting new ones, which is why the unemployment rate is never expected to be zero).

What’s vacant in your life? Maybe there’s a vacancy for a pet, a project, or food in your belly. Or the area that houses your brain, if you're a Congressperson. Maybe time to fill those vacancies.
