Richie Goulding

Character Analysis

Goulding appears briefly in the "Sirens" episode. He is an attorney, and Bloom agrees to have dinner with him in the Ormond Hotel so that he can keep an eye on Boylan there. Goulding comes across as a somewhat pitiful figure in the novel. As he goes on enthusiastically about music, Bloom thinks disparaging thoughts about him. When Bloom leaves their dinner early, Goulding acts disappointed. In "Circe," Goulding walks through the scene several times, heavily weighed down by the bag for Collis & Ward, where he works.
