Even Esme and Maxine can’t manage that. [Esme and Maxine becoming frustrated trying to eat soup with chopsticks]
- 00:25
Today they’re in a trendy store comparing prices on shirts.
- 00:28
Esme and Maxine have come up with their own weird system to do this.
- 00:32
The first shirt they pick costs $35.99, and Esme marks it by kissing it with her bright [Esme kissing a price label on a shirt]
- 00:37
purple lipstick.
- 00:38
Next, they find a $55 shirt, and Maxine kisses the price tag with candy apple red to mark
- 00:44
that it costs more.
- 00:46
But then, Esme finds a shirt that’s $46.99.
- 00:49
Yikes, the flaws in their system are becoming all too apparent.
- 00:53
Maxine says it’s less than the $55, so it should be purple.
- 00:56
[Weird lady standing by an ice cream stall] Esme tells her she’s as crazy as that lady at the ice cream place who talks to the milkshakes.
- 01:01
Clearly, it should be red because it’s more than $35.99.
- 01:04
Maxine and Esme’s tiff goes nuclear fast.
- 01:08
Before anybody knows what’s happening, they’re in a full-fledged lipstick fight and slashing [Maxine and Esme fighting and a store worker looking shocked]
- 01:12
it all over each other’s faces.
- 01:13
All of a sudden, out of nowhere, they hear a voice say…"enough!"
- 01:17
Esme and Maxine look to see none other than the Lipstick Fairy Queen. [A pink lipstick fairy queen]
- 01:20
…Which is totally a real thing.
- 01:22
…don't look it up.
- 01:23
First, the Lipstick Fairy tells them that they should be ashamed of wasting so
- 01:27
much lipstick.
- 01:28
Don’t they know how hard the Queen’s fairy maidens work to create all those tubes of [Lipstick Fairy telling Esme and Maxine off for wasting lipstick]
- 01:32
color?
- 01:33
Weird…says Maxine…I always thought lipstick was made in a factory or something like that.
- 01:36
The Lipstick Fairy Queen tells her that she’s sorely mistaken…
- 01:39
And that they both also need to learn a better system for recording numbers that are greater than,
- 01:43
less than, or equal to each other.
- 01:45
So the Lipstick Fairy Queen starts drawing symbols in the air with her wand… [Lipstick Fairy Queen waving her wand drawing symbols]
- 01:49
First comes greater than, which looks like an alligator with its head turned to the left.
- 01:52
So for example the girls could write down that $55 is greater than $35.99.
- 01:58
Next comes less than, which looks like an alligator turning its head to the right. [An aligator facing in the right direction]
- 02:02
Using this, the Fairy explains, the girls could easily write that $35.99 is less than
- 02:06
$55.
- 02:07
And if they really want to get fancy, the girls can write down $35.99 is less than $46.99
- 02:11
is less than $55.
- 02:13
Or they could flip it around to make $55 is greater than $46.99 is greater than $35.99. [Mathematical calculations of shirt prices]
- 02:19
It’s easy, really.
- 02:21
Just make sure that the alligator is always trying to eat the biggest number.
- 02:24
Alligators are greedy like that.
- 02:26
Esme raises her hand and smugly asks what to do if two numbers are equal. [Esme covered in lipstick asking questions]
- 02:29
She’s pretty sure this one will stump the fairy, but nothing is beyond the Queen’s
- 02:34
powers.
- 02:35
"C'mon, ask me something tough," says the Lipstick Fairy Queen…"just use an equals [Fairy Queen demanding a tougher question]
- 02:38
sign."
- 02:39
$55 equals $55
- 02:40
$46.99 equals $46.99
- 02:43
$35.99 equals….
- 02:44
Okay, we get it, says Maxine.
- 02:46
Enough already.
- 02:47
The Lipstick Fairy Queen tells them they’re both very rude, and that she’ll never help
- 02:50
them again.
- 02:51
Before disappearing behind a clothes rack, she curses Esme and Maxine to always get cold [Lipstick Fairy Queen disappearing behind a clothes rack in the store]
- 02:55
sores every time they use lipstick.
- 02:57
On the way out, Maxine is bummed…she can’t imagine a life without lipstick. [Maxine looking upset at the thought of life without lipstick]
- 03:00
Esme tells her not to worry about it.
- 03:01
She’s pretty sure the Lipstick Fairy Queen was just that eccentric lady who talks to shakes. [Weird girl smiling and holding a milkshake]
