Quote #1
Staring down from his cave with a sour, Grinchy frown
At the warm lighted windows below in their town. (17-18)
Wow. That's our introduction to the Grinch right there—a frowning guy standing in a cave by himself and resenting his neighbors for loving Christmas of all things. It is clear from the get-go that the Grinch is one solitary, unhappy dude. We mean, he lives in a cave. Who does he think he is, Tom Hanks in Cast Away?
Quote #2
And the more the Grinch thought of this Who-Christmas-Sing,
The more the Grinch thought, "I must stop this whole thing!" (45-51)
We are certain that one of the reasons the Grinch decided to destroy Christmas is because he wasn't a participant in any of the Who activities. Singing may be fun when you're participating, but have you ever gone out for karaoke and just watched? Talk about an assault on the ears.
