Description:

Today we're learning about how to make a good first impression. Step one: definitely do not slap someones hand away and try to start a tickle fight instead when you first meet them. They might not even be ticklish. How embarrassing would that be?

[Dino and Coop singing]

00:13

You've probably heard the expression, “put your best foot forward" before.

00:17

And no, that doesn't mean judging both of your feet in some sort of weird, Miss America [Two feet wearing different shoes]

00:20

foot pageant…

00:21

Though the right does look lovely in evening wear.

00:24

It means that it's important that we present ourselves well in life and to try and always

00:28

make a good first impression.

00:30

After all, first impressions?

00:31

They're pretty important. [Coop pointing at the blackboard]

00:33

Think of it this way – if you walked into a restaurant and immediately saw a big, fat

00:37

rat running through it, you'd probably be pretty grossed out, and that would be your [Rat runs across the floor]

00:41

first impression of that place.

00:43

So even if everything else about the restaurant after that was amazing, you would still find [Woman wiping her mouth after the meal]

00:48

it hard to forget that rat you saw.

00:50

Unless it happened to be that awesome little rat chef from Ratatouille, in his adorable

00:53

lil' chef's hat!

00:55

Anyway…first impressions also impact people all the time. [Cute rat chef]

00:58

If you walk into a job interview with messy hair, wrinkled clothes and muddy shoes, well,

01:02

the person interviewing isn't going to think that you're taking this all that seriously. [Interviewer looks unimpressed]

01:06

…unless you're interviewing for a job shoveling mud.

01:09

But you probably wouldn't want that job anyway.

01:11

It's a much better idea to walk in looking clean and pristine. [Guy wearing a smart suit]

01:15

Yes, even if you're still hoping for that mud-shoveling job.

01:18

But you aren't just judged for your appearance – you're judged on your writing, too.

01:22

And so, just like it's important to make a good first impression in person, you want

01:26

your writing to make a good first impression, too.

01:28

Because the things you write are sort of like an extension of you. [Dino pointing at a blackboard]

01:31

But instead of tidy hair, it's tidy spelling and grammar.

01:34

And instead of wrinkle-free clothing, it's a wrinkle-free report that hasn't been stuffed

01:38

into the bottom of your backpack.

01:40

And instead of squeaky-clean shoes, maybe you put that nice report of yours into a nice-looking

01:43

protected folder.

01:45

So next time you write something, be sure to make your report the best it can be, so [Guy typing up his report on the computer]

01:48

it'll nail that first impression.

01:51

And while you're at it, maybe think about cleaning those shoes of yours.

01:53

It's not officially part of your grade…but it never hurts to NOT muck up the teacher's floor. [Guy leaves footprints all over the floor]
